Supporting Education in East Timor |
 East Timorese Children after school When the Portuguese left East Timor in 1975 after 450 years the country was annexed by Indonesia. The East Timorese wanted their independence and a resistance movement grew, which operated from the rugged, mountainous interior of the country. As a result of pressure from the United Nations, a referendum was held in 1999 in which the East Timorese voted for independence. |
